Garuḍa Learns the Cause of Vinatā’s Bondage and the Nāgas Demand Amṛta (Ādi Parva, Adhyāya 23)
जात: परमतेजस्वी विनतानन्दवर्धन:। तेजोराशिमिमं दृष्टवा युष्मान् मोह: समाविशत्,विनताका आनन्द बढ़ानेवाले ये परम तेजस्वी गरुड इसी रूपमें उत्पन्न हुए हैं। तेजके पुंजरूप इन गरुडको देखकर ही तुमलोगोंपर मोह छा गया है
Śaunaka uvāca—jātaḥ paramatejasvī vinatānandavardhanaḥ | tejorāśim imaṃ dṛṣṭvā yuṣmān mohaḥ samāviśat ||
Śaunaka dijo: «Aquel Garuḍa de resplandor supremo—que acrecienta el gozo de Vinatā—nació precisamente con esta forma. Al ver este cúmulo de tejas ardiente, el engaño os sobrecogió a todos.»
शौनक उवाच
Overwhelming power and brilliance can cloud discernment; the verse highlights how awe can turn into moha (bewilderment), implying the ethical need for steadiness and clear perception even before extraordinary phenomena.
Śaunaka comments on Garuḍa’s birth: Garuḍa appears already in a terrifyingly radiant form, and those who witness this ‘mass of light’ become stunned and confused by his splendor.
