Educational Q&A

The verse underscores that major acts—especially war—carry moral and cosmic consequences, often mirrored by 'nimitta' (portents). It invites reflection on dharma: when violence is imminent, one should read the ethical gravity of the moment and act with heightened responsibility.

Vaiśampāyana reports that, at the scene of a great battle, extraordinary omens appeared. The narration uses these signs to foreshadow the seriousness of the coming events and to heighten the sense of impending outcome.
