अग्निभय-प्रसङ्गे मन्दपालस्य शोकः
Mandapāla’s Lament amid the Threat of Fire
ददानीत्येव वरुण: पावकं प्रत्यभाषत । तदद्भुतं महावीर्य यशः:कीर्तिविवर्धनम्
dadānīty eva varuṇaḥ pāvakaṃ pratyabhāṣata | tad adbhutaṃ mahāvīrya yaśaḥ-kīrti-vivardhanam ||
Vaiśampāyana dijo: Varuṇa respondió a Pāvaka: «Lo daré». Aquel acto fue maravilloso—muestra de gran poder—y se convirtió en causa de acrecentar la fama y el renombre.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
A resolute act of giving—especially by one with authority or power—becomes ethically significant and socially enduring, increasing yaśas and kīrti (honor and renown). The verse frames generosity and decisive commitment as sources of lasting reputation.
The narrator reports that Varuṇa responds to Pāvaka (Agni) with the words “I will give it,” and the text immediately characterizes this response/deed as extraordinary, powerful, and fame-enhancing.
