Varuṇa’s Bestowal of the Gāṇḍīva and the Arming of Kṛṣṇa–Arjuna
Khāṇḍava Prelude
As a colophon, the verse does not teach through direct instruction but frames the preceding narrative: Arjuna’s tīrtha-yātrā is presented as a dharmic discipline—seeking purification, cultivating restraint, and accruing merit—showing that ethical preparation and inner refinement accompany heroic action.
This line marks the close of the 216th chapter in the Ādi Parva, specifically within the account of Arjuna’s forest-exile and his pilgrimage to sacred places. It functions as an editorial/narrative boundary rather than a plot event.
