मणिपूरेश्वरं राजन् धर्मज्ञं चित्रवाहनम् । तस्य चित्राड्भदा नाम दुहिता चारुदर्शना,राजन! मणिपूरके स्वामी धर्मज्ञ चित्रवाहन थे। उनके चित्रांगदा नामवाली एक परम सुन्दरी कन्या थी
maṇipūreśvaraṃ rājan dharmajñaṃ citravāhanam | tasya citrāṅgadā nāma duhitā cārudarśanā ||
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: «Oh Rey, el señor de Maṇipura era Citravāhana, un soberano justo y conocedor del dharma. Tenía una hija llamada Citrāṅgadā, doncella de belleza cautivadora».
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse foregrounds dharma as a defining quality of rulership: a king is praised not merely for power or lineage but for being dharmajña—one who understands and upholds righteous order—setting an ethical frame for the events that follow.
The narrator introduces the setting and principal figures in Maṇipura: King Citravāhana, characterized as righteous, and his daughter Citrāṅgadā, noted for her beauty—preparing the audience for the subsequent developments involving this royal family.
