Tīrtha-Sevana and the Cursed Apsaras
Grāha-Encounter at Saubhadra Tīrtha
रत्नै: प्रलो भयामासुः स्त्रीभि श्वो भौ पुन: पुनः । नच तौ चक्रतुर्भड़ं व्रतस्य सुमहाव्रती,उन्होंने बार-बार रत्नोंके ढेर तथा सुन्दरी स्त्रियोंकों भेज-भेजकर उन दोनोंको प्रलोभनमें डालनेकी चेष्टा की; किंतु उन महान् व्रतधारी दैत्योंने अपने तपको भंग नहीं किया
ratnaiḥ pralobhayāmāsuḥ strībhiś caiva punaḥ punaḥ | na ca tau cakratur bhaṅgaṁ vratasya sumahāvratī ||
Una y otra vez intentaron seducir a aquellos dos, enviándoles montones de joyas y mujeres hermosas sin cesar. Pero esos dos poderosos observantes de grandes votos no permitieron que su austeridad se quebrara y permanecieron firmes en su disciplina.
नारद उवाच
True austerity and dharmic discipline are tested by temptation; steadfastness means not letting external allurements—wealth or sensual pleasure—break one’s vow.
Repeated attempts are made to distract two great vow-keepers by sending riches and alluring women, but they remain unmoved and do not break their ascetic observance.
