Draupadī’s Arrival, Kuntī’s Unintended Utterance, and the Decision for Fraternal Unity
पुरोहितेन तेनाथ गुरुणा संगतास्तदा । नाथवन्तमिवात्मानं मेनिरे भरतर्षभा:,उन गुरु एवं पुरोहितके साथ हो जानेसे उस समय भरतवंशियोंमें श्रेष्ठ पाण्डवोंने अपने- आपको सनाथ-सा समझा
purohitena tenātha guruṇā saṅgatās tadā | nāthavantam ivātmānaṃ menire bharatarṣabhāḥ ||
Entonces, al estrechar su trato con aquel sacerdote preceptor, los Pāṇḍava —los más eminentes entre los Bhārata— sintieron como si hubieran hallado un verdadero protector; se tuvieron por ya no desamparados, sino sostenidos y resguardados por un consejo recto.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The verse underscores the stabilizing ethical role of a qualified guru and purohita: when rulers are guided by legitimate spiritual and moral authority, they feel protected and become better positioned to act in accordance with dharma rather than impulse or fear.
Vaiśampāyana narrates that the Pāṇḍavas, upon being united with their guru who also serves as a priestly guide, felt reassured—like people who have found a protector—indicating a shift from vulnerability to supported leadership.
