Draupadī’s Arrival, Kuntī’s Unintended Utterance, and the Decision for Fraternal Unity
तत उत्कोचकं तीर्थ गत्वा धौम्याश्रमं तु ते । त॑ वच्रु: पाण्डवा धौम्यं पौरोहित्याय भारत,जनमेजय! तदनन्तर उत्कोचक तीर्थमें धौम्यके आश्रमपर जाकर पाण्डवोंने धौम्यका पौरोहित्य-कर्मके लिये वरण किया
tata utkośakaṁ tīrthaṁ gatvā dhaumyāśramaṁ tu te | tataḥ pṛcchuḥ pāṇḍavā dhaumyaṁ paurohityāya bhārata janamejaya ||
Luego fueron al vado sagrado llamado Utkośaka y, después, a la ermita de Dhaumya. Allí, oh Janamejaya de la estirpe de Bhārata, los Pāṇḍavas se acercaron a Dhaumya y lo eligieron para servir como su sacerdote familiar (purohita).
वैशम्पायन उवाच
Major undertakings should be grounded in dharma by seeking the counsel of qualified sages and establishing proper priestly guidance (purohita), so that actions proceed with ritual propriety and ethical clarity.
The Pāṇḍavas travel to the Utkośaka sacred ford and then to Sage Dhaumya’s hermitage, where they approach him and appoint him as their purohita (family priest).
