Aurva Episode: Restoration of Sight and Restraint of World-Destructive Anger
seyaṁ kāpuruṣaṁ prāptā gurudattā praṇaśyati | āgamo ’syā mayā prokto vīryaṁ pratibodha me ||
Knowledge entrusted by a guru must be held by a worthy recipient; if it is acquired by one lacking courage and inner fitness, it loses its efficacy and is effectively ‘destroyed.’ The verse stresses adhikāra (qualification) and responsible transmission of tradition.
A Gandharva addresses the listener, stating that he has already described the teaching’s lineage (āgama/paramparā) and now will explain its vīrya—its practical power—while warning that such guru-given lore fails when possessed by a cowardly person.
