Vasiṣṭhasya śokaḥ, Vipāśā–Śatadrū-nāmākaraṇam, Kalmāṣapādasya bhaya-prasaṅgaḥ (Ādi Parva 167)

tathaiva ca mahābhāgaḥ so 'paśyat saṃśitavratāu | yājopayājau brahmarṣī śāmyantī parameṣṭhinau ||

Educational Q&A

The verse highlights that the highest spiritual stature is associated with steadfast vows (vrata), austerity (tapas), and inner tranquility (śānti). Greatness is portrayed as ethical discipline and calm authority, likened to the exalted status of Brahmā.

A noble figure arrives at a place and sees two eminent sages, Yāja and Upayāja, described as strict in vows and supremely peaceful, their presence compared in grandeur to Parameṣṭhī Brahmā.
