Hiḍimba’s Approach and Hiḍimbā’s Warning to Bhīmasena (हिडिम्बागमनम् / हिडिम्बा-भयवचनम्)
कणिक उवाच एवं तेषु प्रयातेषु जम्बुको हृष्टमानस: । खादति सम तदा मांसमेक: सन् मन्त्रनिश्चयात्,कणिक कहते हैं--इस प्रकार उन सबके चले जानेपर अपनी युक्तिमें सफल हो जानेके कारण गीदड़का हृदय हर्षसे खिल उठा। तब उसने अकेले ही वह मांस खाया
kaṇika uvāca evaṁ teṣu prayāteṣu jambuko hṛṣṭamānasaḥ | khādati sma tadā māṁsam ekaḥ san mantraniścayāt ||
Kaṇika dijo: «Cuando todos se hubieron marchado, el corazón del chacal se hinchó de gozo, pues su estratagema había triunfado. Entonces, quedando solo y firme en su plan, se comió la carne».
कणिक उवाच
The verse highlights how calculated counsel (mantra) can lead to personal gain when others are made to withdraw—raising an ethical warning about success achieved through manipulation and solitary appropriation.
After the others leave, the jackal—pleased that his scheme has worked—remains alone and eats the meat, acting on his pre-decided plan.
