Vāraṇāvata-prasaṃsā and the Pāṇḍavas’ Departure (वरणावत-प्रशंसा तथा पाण्डव-प्रयाणम्)

yuktarūpaḥ sa hi gurur ityevamanucintya ca | athainam ānīya tadā svayameva susatkṛtam |
Reflexionando: «En verdad, él es el maestro más adecuado», Bhīṣma lo condujo personalmente y lo honró con el debido respeto. Allí, Bhīṣma —el más eminente entre los guerreros— preguntó con prudente inteligencia a Droṇa la razón de su llegada, y Droṇa expuso toda la causa tal como era.
वैशम्पायन उवाच
The passage highlights discernment in choosing a qualified teacher and the ethical duty to honor learning and the learned. Bhīṣma’s conduct models respectful reception (satkāra) and prudent inquiry before entrusting royal heirs to a preceptor.
Bhīṣma concludes that Droṇa is the appropriate guru for the princes, personally brings him with honor, and asks the reason for his coming. Droṇa then begins to explain the circumstances that led him to arrive.
