उन महात्मा ब्राह्मगको देखकर वे सभी कुमार उनके पास गये और उन्हें घेरकर खड़े हो गये। उनका उत्साह भंग हो गया था। कोई काम करनेकी इच्छा नहीं होती थी। मनमें भारी निराशा भर गयी थी
taṁ mahātmā brāhmaṇaṁ dṛṣṭvā te sarve kumārās tasya samīpaṁ jagmuḥ | taṁ parivārya tiṣṭhantaḥ teṣāṁ utsāho bhagnaḥ | na kiñcit kartum icchā bhavati | manasi gurvī nirāśā samabhavat |
Al ver a aquel brāhmaṇa magnánimo, todos los jóvenes príncipes se acercaron y quedaron de pie rodeándolo. Su ánimo se había quebrado; ya no sentían deseo alguno de actuar. Una pesada desesperanza llenó sus mentes—mostrando cómo la resolución interior se derrumba cuando se pierden la confianza y el propósito, y cómo en tal momento se vuelve necesaria la guía de los sabios.
