Pāṇḍu’s Resolve for Renunciation and Forest Discipline
The verse frames marriage and alliance-making as a dharmic responsibility tied to the continuity of the royal lineage, while also modeling prudent governance: Bhīṣma offers his considered view yet defers to Vidura’s superior ethical discernment.
Bhīṣma advises that the maidens being discussed should be accepted in marriage to secure progeny for the Kuru house, but he invites Vidura’s judgment and signals willingness to follow Vidura’s counsel.
