Pāṇḍu’s Resolve for Renunciation and Forest Discipline

Educational Q&A

The verse frames preservation and flourishing of the dynasty as a shared dharmic responsibility: elders and the addressed younger person must actively arrange what is necessary so the lineage continues to expand and endure.

Bhīṣma is speaking to a younger interlocutor (addressed as “vatsa”), emphasizing that the family line should keep growing like the ocean, and asserting with certainty that both he and the listener must take the required steps to ensure that outcome.
