स ददर्श तदा कनन््यां दाशानां देवरूपिणीम् | तामपृच्छत् स दृष्टवैव कन््यामसितलोचनाम्,घूमते-घूमते उन्होंने मल्लाहोंकी एक कन्या देखी, जो देवांगनाओंके समान रूपवती थी। श्याम नेत्रोंवाली उस कन्याको देखते ही राजाने पूछा---
sa dadarśa tadā kanyāṃ dāśānāṃ devarūpiṇīm | tām apṛcchat sa dṛṣṭvaiva kanyām asitalocanām |
Dijo Vaiśampāyana: «Entonces vio a una doncella entre los pescadores, de belleza semejante a la de una ninfa celestial. En cuanto contempló a la joven de ojos oscuros, el rey le preguntó.»
