अनुक्रमणिकाध्यायः (Anukramaṇikā Adhyāya) — Invocation, Narrator Frame, and Textual Scope
तत्राजगाम विघ्नेशो वेदव्यासो यतः स्थित: । पूजितश्लोपविष्ट श्न॒ व्यासेनोक्तस्तदाउनघ,निष्पाप शौनक! तदनन्तर सत्यवतीनन्दन व्यासजीने भगवान् गणेशका स्मरण किया और स्मरण करते ही भक्तवांछाकल्पतरु विष्नेश्वर श्रीगणेशजी महाराज वहाँ आये, जहाँ व्यासजी विद्यमान थे। व्यासजीने गणेशजीका बड़े आदर और प्रेमसे स्वागत-सत्कार किया और वे जब बैठ गये, तब उनसे कहा--
tatrājagāma vighneśo vedavyāso yataḥ sthitaḥ | pūjitaś copaviṣṭaś ca vyāsenoktas tadā anagha śaunaka |
Entonces Vighneśa (Gaṇeśa) llegó al lugar donde Vedavyāsa estaba sentado. Tras ser debidamente honrado, tomó asiento; y entonces Vyāsa le habló. Oh Śaunaka sin mancha, éste es el comienzo de la colaboración sagrada en la que la reverencia, la humildad y la recta intención apartan los obstáculos para una gran obra destinada al bien del mundo.
