FAQs

This verse frames udaka-kriyā as a purificatory, dharmic offering done facing the Pitṛ-direction, extending reverence beyond ancestors to key benefactors like the teacher and the teacher’s wife.

Indirectly: by emphasizing correct post-death rites (like water offerings), it supports the broader Garuda Purana theme that ritual duty toward Pitṛs aids orderly transition and welfare in the post-mortem journey.

When performing tarpaṇa/śrāddha-related water offerings, keep proper orientation (Pitṛ-direction) and include gratitude offerings for elders and teachers in accordance with one’s tradition and family practice.
