FAQs

It introduces Vānaprastha-yati conduct, highlighting practical observances such as maintaining Agnihotra, austere living (sleeping on the ground), and ascetic markers like matted hair and deer-skin.

By shifting from a chapter on śauca (purity) to a structured treatment of āśrama-dharma, it shows the text’s breadth—cataloguing social-religious institutions (life-stages), ritual practice (Agnihotra), and ascetic discipline within one compendium.

These disciplines are presented as purifying and merit-producing: sustaining sacred fire-rites and adopting austerity are traditional means to reduce attachment, uphold dharma, and prepare for higher renunciation and liberation-oriented life.
