Yagyavalkya
ग्रामादग्निमाहृत्य पूर्ववदग्निमाजिघ्रेत्। यदग्निं न विन्देदप्सु जुहुयाद्—आपो वै सर्वा देवताः; सर्वाभ्यो देवताभ्यो जुहोमि स्वाहा—इति साज्यं हविरनामयम्। मोक्षमन्त्रस्त्रय्येवं वेद—तद्ब्रह्म तदुपासितव्यम्। शिखां यज्ञोपवीतं छित्त्वा “संन्यस्तं मये” इति त्रिवारमुच्चरेत्। एवमेवैतद्भगवन्निति वै याज्ञवल्क्यः॥३॥
ग्रामात् । अग्निम् । आहृत्य । पूर्ववत् । अग्निम् । आजिघ्रेत् । यत् । अग्निम् । न । विन्देत् । अप्सु । जुहुयात् । आपः । वै । सर्वाः । देवताः । सर्वाभ्यः । देवताभ्यः । जुहोमि । स्वाहा । इति । स-आज्यम् । हविः । न । आमयम् । मोक्ष-मन्त्रः । त्रयी । एवम् । वेद । तत् । ब्रह्म । तत् । उपासितव्यम् । शिखाम् । यज्ञोपवीतम् । छित्त्वा । संन्यस्तम् । मये । इति । त्रिः-वारम् । उच्चरेत् । एवम् । एव । एतत् । भगवन् । इति । वै । याज्ञवल्क्यः ॥३॥
grāmād agnim āhṛtya pūrvavad agnim ājighret. yad agniṃ na vinded apsu juhuyād—āpo vai sarvā devatāḥ; sarvābhyo devatābhyo juhomi svāhā—iti sājyaṃ havir nāmayam. mokṣa-mantras trayī evaṃ veda—tad brahma tad upāsitavyam. śikhāṃ yajñopavītaṃ chittvā “saṃnyastaṃ maye” iti trivāram uccaret. evam evaitad bhagavann iti vai yājñavalkyaḥ.||3||
Having brought fire from the village, one should, as before, inhale the fragrance of the fire. If one does not obtain fire, one should offer into water, saying: “Waters indeed are all the deities; to all the deities I offer—svāhā,” thus making the oblation with ghee, free from affliction. The liberation-mantra—thus the triad (of Vedas) knows it; that is Brahman; that is to be meditated upon. Having cut off the topknot and the sacred thread, one should utter three times, “Renounced by me.” Thus indeed it is, O venerable sir—so said Yājñavalkya.
