ग्रन्थमभ्यस्य मेधावी ज्ञानविज्ञानतत्परः । पलालमिव धान्यार्थी त्यजेद्ग्रन्थमशेषतः ॥१८॥

ग्रन्थम् । अभ्यस्य । मेधावी । ज्ञान-विज्ञान-तत्परः । पलालम्-इव । धान्य-अर्थी । त्यजेत् । ग्रन्थम् । अशेषतः ॥

IAST Transliteration

grantham abhyasya medhāvī jñānavijñānatatparaḥ | palālam iva dhānyārthī tyajed grantham aśeṣataḥ ||18||

Translation

Having studied the scripture, the discerning one—intent on knowledge and direct realization—should set the text aside entirely, as one seeking grain discards the chaff.

Having studied the text, the intelligent one—devoted to knowledge and realization—should abandon the text entirely, like one seeking grain (abandons) the chaff.
