What, I pray, was the wood, and what the tree, wherefrom they fashioned heaven and earth? The wise, indeed, inquire with the mind concerning that which, standing over them, upheld the worlds.

O Viśvakarman, by oblation, by the means of increase, thou madest Indra, the protector, not to be slain. To him the former peoples bowed them down, that this mighty one might be invoked as was meet.

Mantra 25

Beyond the heaven, beyond this earth, beyond what is with Devas and with Asuras—what first germ did the Waters hold, where the gods of old beheld it together?

Mantra 30

Ye know not him who generated these; another, within you, hath come to be. Covered with mist, with muttered speech, unsated in breath, the reciters of hymns and ordinances go their way.

Mantra 32

Frequently Asked Questions

It continues Vasordhārā-type prosperity offerings and special fire-addresses, using Agni as purifier and carrier to secure abundance, protection, and uplift for the sacrificer/beneficiary.

They sacralize prosperity by rooting the oblation in the first act of creation—asking about the original support, wood/tree, and boundaries—so increase is treated as lawful cosmic expansion rather than mere gain.

It warns that outward recitation alone does not grasp the true generator of the cosmos; the sacrifice must be inwardly understood, aligning intent and knowledge with the rite.
