पूजास्थानशुद्धिः पात्रशोधनं च — Purification of the Worship-Space and Preparation of Ritual Vessels
पूजाद्रव्याणि सर्वाणि प्रोक्षणीपात्रवारिणा । सम्प्रोक्ष्य मूलमंत्रेण शोधयेद्विधिवत्ततः
pūjādravyāṇi sarvāṇi prokṣaṇīpātravāriṇā | samprokṣya mūlamaṃtreṇa śodhayedvidhivattataḥ
Then, sprinkling all the articles of worship with the water kept in the vessel meant for consecratory sprinkling, one should duly purify them in the prescribed manner by reciting the root-mantra, making them fit for the worship of Śiva.

It teaches that worship begins with śodhana—sanctifying the means of worship through mantra and consecrated water—so the offering becomes spiritually fit for Pati (Śiva) and the devotee’s mind is aligned with purity and reverence.
In Saguna worship such as Liṅga-pūjā, materials are not used casually; they are ritually transformed through prokṣaṇa and the mūla-mantra, affirming that the Liṅga is approached as a living, consecrated presence of Śiva.
Perform prokṣaṇa (sprinkling) of all puja items using the prokṣaṇī water while reciting the Śaiva root mantra—commonly understood in practice as the Panchākṣarī ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya")—as a concise act of purification and consecration.
