Wearing the sacred thread (yajñopavīta) and with the tuft of hair (śikhā) properly tied, one should enter the water. Having immersed, bathed, and become inwardly calm and purified, one should set down in that water the three sacred circles (trimandala), preparing in disciplined ritual order for Śiva’s worship.
Suta Goswami
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Significance: Marks transition from mere cleansing to consecrated readiness: upavīta, śikhā-bandhana, immersion, and maṇḍala/nyāsa-like ordering—preparing the paśu for Śiva’s grace through correct vidhi.
It teaches that Śiva-worship begins with śauca (purity) and śānti (inner composure): disciplined preparation aligns the devotee (paśu) toward Pati, making the mind fit for mantra and worship.
By prescribing bathing, calmness, and a threefold ritual arrangement (trimaṇḍala), it frames Linga-pūjā as a structured approach to Saguna Śiva—using ordered rites to steady awareness and invite grace.
A preparatory water-bath (avagāha), followed by achieving composure (samācānta) and performing a placement/nyāsa of a threefold sacred arrangement (trimaṇḍala) as a prelude to Śaiva mantra and worship.
