Purification of the Six Adhvans / Sixfold Cosmic Path
लंबयित्वा तु तत्सूत्रं सुषुम्णां तत्र योजयेत् । शांतया मुद्रयादाय मूलमंत्रेण मंत्रवित्
laṃbayitvā tu tatsūtraṃ suṣumṇāṃ tatra yojayet | śāṃtayā mudrayādāya mūlamaṃtreṇa maṃtravit
Letting that sacred cord hang down, the knower of mantra should connect it there with the suṣumṇā, the central channel. Then, adopting the Śāntā mudrā, he should apply the rite with the root-mantra, in tranquil, Śiva-oriented focus.

Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Īśāna
Type: panchakshara
Role: liberating
It links outer ritual precision (thread and mudrā) with inner yogic alignment (suṣumṇā), showing that Śiva-worship culminates in inward stillness and mantra-centered union directed toward mokṣa.
Even when worship begins with saguna supports and ritual acts, the verse directs the practitioner to internalize the worship through the suṣumṇā and the root-mantra, moving from external observance toward inner realization of Śiva.
A mantra-yoga procedure: position/extend the sacred cord, align awareness with the suṣumṇā, form the Śāntā mudrā, and recite the mūlamantra with a steady, pacified mind.
