शिवशङ्खचूडयुद्धवर्णनम् / Description of the Battle between Śiva and Śaṅkhacūḍa
ततश्शंभुस्त्रिशूलेन संकुद्धस्तं जघान ह । तत्प्रहारमसह्याशु कौ पपात स मूर्च्छितः
tataśśaṃbhustriśūlena saṃkuddhastaṃ jaghāna ha | tatprahāramasahyāśu kau papāta sa mūrcchitaḥ
Then Śambhu, inflamed with righteous fury, struck him with the trident. Unable to endure that unbearable blow, Kau at once fell down, fainting.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating to the sages of Naimiṣāraṇya)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Tripurāntaka
Śiva’s triśūla symbolizes the Lord’s decisive grace that destroys adharma and the ego’s resistance; the opponent’s collapse signifies the fall of pride before Pati (the Supreme Lord) who alone governs power and liberation.
The verse highlights Saguna Śiva as the active protector who intervenes in the cosmos; Linga-worship internalizes this truth by honoring Śiva as the one Reality whose power manifests as protection, dissolution of negativity, and restoration of dharma.
Contemplate Śiva’s triśūla as the cutting of the three impurities (āṇava, māyīya, kārma) and repeat the Pañcākṣarī—“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—as a focused japa for inner victory over agitation and tamas.
