विष्णुचेष्टितवर्णनम् / Account of Viṣṇu’s Stratagem and Its Aftermath
यच्च बीजं पुरा लक्ष्म्या माययैव समर्पितम् । तस्मात्तदुद्भवा नारी तस्मिन्नीर्ष्यापराभवत्
yacca bījaṃ purā lakṣmyā māyayaiva samarpitam | tasmāttadudbhavā nārī tasminnīrṣyāparābhavat
And that seed which Lakṣmī had formerly offered through her own power of māyā—from that there arose a woman; and, regarding that very matter, she became overpowered by jealousy.

The verse highlights māyā as a binding force and shows how inner faults like jealousy (īrṣyā) can arise from identification with appearances and outcomes—an obstacle to Śiva-bhakti and liberation in a Shaiva Siddhanta reading.
By contrasting māyā-born agitation with the steady refuge of devotion, it implicitly points to Saguna Śiva worship (including Liṅga-upāsanā) as a stabilizing practice that purifies jealousy and other impurities, turning the mind toward Śiva as Pati (the Lord beyond bonds).
A practical takeaway is to counter jealousy with japa of the Pañcākṣarī (“Om Namaḥ Śivāya”) and regular Śiva-pūjā with vibhūti (tripuṇḍra) as a reminder to transcend māyā and cultivate inner purity.
