Rudra Enters the Battlefield; the Daityas’ Arrow-Storm
पार्वत्युवाच । विष्णो जलंधरो दैत्यः कृतवान्परमाद्भुतम् । तत्किं न विदितं तेऽस्ति चेष्टितं तस्य दुर्मतेः
pārvatyuvāca | viṣṇo jalaṃdharo daityaḥ kṛtavānparamādbhutam | tatkiṃ na viditaṃ te'sti ceṣṭitaṃ tasya durmateḥ
Pārvatī said: “O Viṣṇu, the demon Jalandhara has performed deeds that are exceedingly astonishing. Is there anything at all—any act of that evil-minded one—that is not known to you?”

The verse highlights that extraordinary power in an adharmic being can still be fully known and contained within divine order; in Shaiva understanding, Pati (the Lord) ultimately governs outcomes, while the Devas act as instruments within that cosmic governance.
Though addressed to Viṣṇu, the Yuddhakhaṇḍa narrative frames demonic pride as opposition to the Lord’s dharma; Linga/Saguṇa-Śiva worship is presented in the Purāṇa as the stabilizing refuge that restores order when adharma becomes 'astonishingly' powerful.
A practical takeaway is vigilant self-examination to avoid durmati (corrupt intention), supported by daily japa of the Pañcākṣarī “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” and the disciplined use of bhasma (Tripuṇḍra) or rudrākṣa as reminders of dharma and humility.
