This verse teaches reverent recognition of the one Supreme Reality appearing through complementary divine expressions—honoring Nārāyaṇa while also honoring the one devoted to, identical with, or manifest from Nārāyaṇa—supporting a harmony that culminates in devotion and liberation.
In Shaiva reading, it reinforces that Saguna worship (including the Śiva-liṅga) is not sectarian rivalry but a sacred doorway: the devotee can honor Viṣṇu as Nārāyaṇa while remaining established in Śiva-bhakti, seeing unity of divine power and purpose.
Practice japa with a reconciled heart—chanting “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” while offering respectful salutations to Nārāyaṇa—cultivating ekāgratā (one-pointedness) and removing hostility, which is itself a key inner discipline praised in Purāṇic devotion.
