संध्याचरित्रवर्णनम् (Sandhyā-caritra-varṇanam) — “Narration of Sandhyā’s Austerity and Encounter with Śiva”
yasyā'paraṃ no jagaducyate padāt kṣitirdiśassūrya iṃdurmanaujaḥ | barhirmukhā nābhitaścāntarikṣaṃ tasmai tubhyaṃ śaṃbhave me namostu
From Your feet, it is declared, this entire universe arises—earth, the directions, the sun, the moon, and the mind’s vital power; Your face is the sacred altar-fire, and Your navel-region is the mid-space. Unto that auspicious Lord Śambhu—to You alone—be my reverent salutation.
Sūta Gosvāmin (narrating the hymn of praise to Lord Śiva in the Satīkhaṇḍa context)
Tattva Level: pati
Shiva Form: Sadyojāta
Sthala Purana: Cosmic-Puruṣa style visualization rather than a kṣetra narrative; Śiva is mapped onto the cosmos and yajña.
Significance: Encourages seeing all tirthas and worlds as Śiva’s body—pilgrimage becomes recognition (pratyabhijñā-like) of pervasive divinity while remaining Siddhāntically theistic.
Type: stotra
Role: nurturing
Offering: dhupa
Cosmic Event: Virāṭ/cosmic-body mapping: feet as source of worlds; mouth as yajña; navel as antarikṣa
It presents Śiva as both transcendent and immanent—the ultimate Pati from whom the cosmos is manifested—guiding the devotee to surrender and seek liberation through devotion and right knowledge.
By describing cosmic limbs (feet, face, navel), the verse supports Saguna contemplation—worshipping Śiva with form (including the Liṅga) while recognizing that this form signifies the all-pervading supreme reality.
Recite a Śiva-stuti with bhakti, meditate on Śiva as the indwelling presence in all worlds, and pair it with Panchākṣarī japa ("Om Namaḥ Śivāya")—optionally with bhasma (tripuṇḍra) and Rudrākṣa as Shaiva aids.
