विष्णोर्दर्शनं स्तुतिश्च
Viṣṇu’s Manifestation and Brahmā’s Hymn
धिक्कारं कृतवान् सर्वान्निजं मत्वा परप्रभुम् । ज्ञानिनं योगिनं नाथाभोगिनं विजितेन्द्रियम्
dhikkāraṃ kṛtavān sarvānnijaṃ matvā paraprabhum | jñāninaṃ yoginaṃ nāthābhoginaṃ vijitendriyam
Thinking himself to be everything, he reviled all; and with contempt he spoke even of the Supreme Lord—the knower of Truth, the great Yogi, the Nātha beyond worldly enjoyment, and the one who has conquered the senses.
Suta Goswami (narrating the Sati Khanda account to the sages at Naimisharanya)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Mahādeva
It condemns ego (ahaṅkāra) that makes one belittle others and even disrespect Shiva, the Supreme Yogi; Shaiva teaching here is that humility and recognition of Pati (Shiva) are essential for liberation.
The verse highlights Shiva as the supreme, sense-conquering Lord; Linga worship trains the devotee to bow down, dissolve pride, and approach Saguna Shiva with reverence rather than judgment or social status.
Cultivate indriya-nigraha (sense-restraint) through japa of the Panchakshara (Om Namaḥ Śivāya), along with simple Shaiva disciplines like vibhuti (Tripundra) and meditation on Shiva as the inner Yogi.
