मङ्गलपत्रिकाग्रहणम् — Reception of the Auspicious Marriage Invitation
iti śrīśivamahāpurāṇe dvitīyāyāṃ rudrasaṃhitāyāṃ tṛtīye pārvatīkhaṇḍe devanimantraṇa devāgamana śivayātrāvarṇanaṃ nāmaikonacatvāriṃśo'dhyāyaḥ
Thus, in the Śrī Śiva Mahāpurāṇa—within the Second Book, the Rudra Saṃhitā, and in the Third section called the Pārvatī-khaṇḍa—ends the thirty-ninth chapter, entitled “The Invitation of the Gods, the Arrival of the Devas, and the Description of Śiva’s Procession.”
Sūta Gosvāmin
This is the chapter-colophon marking completion of a sacred narrative unit; it highlights that even the Devas participate in Śiva’s līlā, affirming Śiva as Pati (the Supreme Lord) whose auspicious acts sanctify devotees who hear and remember them.
By naming “Śiva’s procession” and the Devas’ participation, it emphasizes Saguna Śiva—Śiva accessible through form, story, and devotion—supporting Purāṇic worship where hearing (śravaṇa) and remembrance (smaraṇa) deepen reverence for Śiva and his sacred presence.
As a concluding marker, it chiefly suggests śravaṇa and pāraṇa (devout completion) of the chapter; devotees may conclude with japa of “Om Namaḥ Śivāya” and a brief dhyāna on Śiva’s auspicious procession.
