गणेश-वाक्यं तथा गणानां समर-सन्नाहः | Gaṇeśa’s Challenge and the Mustering of the Gaṇas
मया पूर्वं कृतं नैव बालोस्मि क्रियतेऽधुना । तथापि भवतां लज्जा गिरिजाशिवयोरिह
mayā pūrvaṃ kṛtaṃ naiva bālosmi kriyate'dhunā | tathāpi bhavatāṃ lajjā girijāśivayoriha
“I have not done this earlier; I am but a child, and I am doing it only now. Even so, in this matter there should be a sense of modest restraint before Girijā and Śiva.”
Kumāra (Kārttikeya/Skanda)
Tattva Level: pashu
Shiva Form: Umāpati
Shakti Form: Girijā
Role: teaching
The verse highlights a Shaiva virtue: humility. Even when one acts with sincerity, reverence and modest restraint before Pati (Śiva) and Śakti (Girijā) purify intention and align the soul (paśu) toward grace rather than ego.
Linga/Saguṇa-Śiva worship is approached with vinaya (humility) and maryādā (reverent conduct). The verse teaches that devotion is not merely an act performed, but an inner posture of respect before Śiva and His inseparable Śakti.
Adopt a humble sankalpa before pūjā or japa—especially while chanting “Om Namaḥ Śivāya”—and maintain respectful restraint in speech and behavior as part of worship (ācāra-śuddhi).
