Shloka 2.79.7
भरतस्य राज्यत्यागः तथा रामानयनप्रतिज्ञा (Bharata Rejects Kingship and Vows to Bring Rama Back)
ज्येष्ठस्य राजता नित्यमुचिता हि कुलस्य नः।नैवं भवन्तो मां वक्तुमर्हन्ति कुशला जनाः।।2.79.7।।
ūcus te vacanam idaṃ niśamya hṛṣṭāḥ sāmātyāḥ sapariṣadaḥ viyātaśokāḥ | panthānaṃ naravara bhaktimān janaś ca vyādiṣṭas tava vacanāc ca śilpivargaḥ ||2.79.17||
Hearing your words, the ministers and council members—freed from sorrow—spoke with delight: “O best of men, at your command devoted citizens and the guilds of artisans have been directed to prepare the road.”
It has been the tradition in our race that the eldest son alone should always inherit the kingdom. It does not behove intelligent people like you to tell me like this.
Dharma in practice is coordinated service: righteous intent must be supported by organized action—ministers, citizens, and artisans working together for a just purpose.
After being reassured by Bharata’s stance, the ministers and council report that preparations (road-making) have been ordered in accordance with his instructions.
Competent governance and devotion: the administration and public respond promptly and loyally to dharmic leadership.
