O king, what did you resolve while I was away and before I could return—banishing righteous Rāma and mighty Lakṣmaṇa?
What have you done, O king, between my absence and my arrival? You have banished the righteous Rama and the valiant Lakshmana.
Bharata is addressing his deceased father, King Dasharatha, lamenting the decisions made during Bharata's absence.
Bharata highlights the tragedy of banishing Rama, whom he explicitly calls 'dharmajñam' (knower of Dharma), questioning the righteousness of the King's resolution made in haste.
