Shloka 2.75.34

अयोध्याकाण्डे पञ्चसप्ततितमः सर्गः (Sarga 75: Bharata and Kausalya—Reproach, Oaths, and Reconciliation)

पुत्रैर्दारैश्च भृत्यैश्च स्वगृहे परिवारितः।स एको मृष्टमश्नातु यस्यार्योऽनुमते गतः।।।।

putrair dāraiś ca bhṛtyaiś ca svagṛhe parivāritaḥ | sa eko mṛṣṭam aśnātu yasyāryo ’numate gataḥ ||

May the man by whose consent my noble brother was exiled incur the blame of one who, though surrounded at home by children, wife, and servants, eats fine food all alone.

May the one who counselled the exile of my esteemed brother acquire the sin in the same way as one who, although surrounded by wife, children and servants, eats the delicacies all alone without sharing acquires.

Bharata continues to frame the exile as a moral rupture and calls down socially recognized forms of blame upon the instigator.

Bharata’s sense of social righteousness—he measures wrongdoing by its violation of communal and familial obligations.
