भरतस्य दूतसमागमः तथा केकयराजनः अनुज्ञा
Bharata Meets the Messengers; Kekaya King Grants Leave
स दत्तं केकयेन्द्रेण धनं तन्नाभ्यनन्दत।भरतः कैकयीपुत्रो गमनत्वरया तदा।।2.70.24।।
sa dattaṁ kekayendreṇa dhanaṁ tan nābhyanandata |
bharataḥ kaikayī-putro gamana-tvarayā tadā ||2.70.24||
Then Bharata, Kaikeyi’s son, in his haste to depart, found no joy in the wealth given by the king of Kekaya.
Then the noble-minded, prosperous Bharata, on leaving the highway, saw the inner apartment of the king which he entered unhindered.
Dharma is prioritizing rightful duty over material gain; when duty calls, wealth becomes secondary and cannot distract a principled person.
Bharata is about to leave Kekaya for Ayodhya; despite receiving wealth from the Kekaya king, he is emotionally unsettled and focused on departure.
Detachment and seriousness of purpose—Bharata is not tempted by riches when a pressing obligation awaits.
