Shloka 2.62.20
अयोध्याकाण्डे द्विषष्टितमः सर्गः — Kausalyā consoles Daśaratha; grief, remorse, and nightfall
एवं हि कथयन्त्यास्तु कौसल्यायाश्शुभं वचः।मन्दरश्मिरभूत्सूर्यो रजनी चाभ्यवर्तत।।।।
dharmajñāḥ śrutimanto 'pi chinna-dharmārtha-saṃśayāḥ | yatayo vīra muhyanti śoka-sammūḍha-cetasaḥ ||
O heroic one, even ascetics—who know dharma, are learned in sacred scripture, and whose doubts about dharma and worldly good are cut away—become bewildered when grief overwhelms the mind.
While Kausalya was speaking these heart-touching words, the rays of the Sun began to fade and the night fell.
It teaches humility: knowledge of dharma is profound, yet emotional shock can still cloud discernment; therefore one should not judge the grieving harshly.
Kausalyā explains to Daśaratha that grief can bewilder even the spiritually advanced, implicitly excusing his shaken state.
