अष्टपञ्चाशः सर्गः (Sarga 58) — Daśaratha Questions Sumantra; Messages from the Forest Threshold
असमीक्षय समारब्धं विरुद्धं बुध्दिलाघवात्।जनयिष्यति सङ्क्रोशं राघवस्य विवासनम्।।।।
asamīkṣya samārabdhaṃ viruddhaṃ buddhilāghavāt | janayiṣyati saṅkrośaṃ rāghavasya vivāsanam ||
Rāghava’s banishment—begun without due reflection, contrary to justice, and from poor judgment—will surely give rise to public lamentation and outcry.
'Unjustly, foolishly and without (proper) consideration Rama has been banished. This will (definitely) cause sorrow'.
Unjust decisions made without discernment harm not only an individual but society—adharma triggers collective suffering and unrest.
In reaction to the exile, a warning is voiced that the kingdom will mourn and protest because the act is seen as unjust.
Concern for societal dharma—recognizing that rulers’ choices must withstand moral scrutiny and public conscience.
