Shloka 2.53.27
पञ्चाशत्तमः सर्गः (Sarga 53) — Rāma’s Lament, Vigil for Sītā, and Lakṣmaṇa’s Consolation
एतदन्यश्च करुणं विलप्य विजने वने।अश्रुपूर्णमुखो रामो निशि तूष्णीमुपाविशत्।।।।
etad anyaś ca karuṇaṃ vilapya vijane vane | aśrupūrṇamukho rāmo niśi tūṣṇīm upāviśat ||
Lamenting thus—and in other piteous ways—in that lonely forest, Rāma, his face filled with tears, sat down in silence in the night.
Like this and in many other ways Rama lamented pitifully in that desolate forest. When his face was filled with tears, he sat silently in the night.
Even when committed to dharma, a person may grieve; the verse frames righteous endurance as emotionally real, not emotionless.
After speaking at length, Rāma’s sorrow culminates in quiet silence in the forest at night.
Inner sincerity and humanity—Rāma’s truthful emotional response while remaining on the dharmic path.
