अयोध्याकाण्डे एकपञ्चाशः सर्गः — Guha’s Vigil and Lakṣmaṇa’s Lament (Night on the riverbank)

लक्ष्मणस्तं तदोवाच रक्ष्यमाणास्त्वयानघ।नात्र भीता वयं सर्वे धर्ममेवानुपश्यता।।।।

paridevayamānasya dukhārtasya mahātmanaḥ |

tiṣṭhato rājaputrasya śarvarī sā 'tyavartata ||

As that high-souled prince stood there, lamenting and tormented by grief, the night passed away.

Lakshmana said to Guha, O sinless one! when all of us are under your righteous protection we have nothing to fear.

L
Lakshmana (implied prince)
N
Night (śarvarī)

Dharma as steadfast endurance: the righteous continue their duty (vigil, accompaniment) even while overwhelmed by grief.

Lakshmana remains awake and grieving through the night; time moves on as the vigil continues.

Perseverance under sorrow—Lakshmana’s devotion does not collapse into negligence.
