अयोध्याकाण्डे एकपञ्चाशः सर्गः — Guha’s Vigil and Lakṣmaṇa’s Lament (Night on the riverbank)
परिदेवयमानस्य दुखार्तस्य महात्मनः।तिष्ठतो राजपुत्रस्य शर्वरी साऽत्यवर्तत।।।।
na hi rāmāt priyatamo mamāsti bhuvi kaścana |
bravīmy etad ahaṁ satyaṁ satyenaiva ca te śape ||
For me, no one in this world is dearer than Rama. I speak this as truth—and by truth itself, I swear it to you.
While that noble prince (Lakshmana), tormented with grief, stood thus wailing, the night passed off.
Satya as dharma: truthfulness is treated as sacred, strong enough to serve as the very basis of an oath.
Guha reassures Lakshmana of his unwavering attachment and allegiance to Rama, pledging it with an oath of truth.
Integrity and steadfast friendship—Guha binds his loyalty through satya.
