सुमित्रोपदेशः — Sumitra’s Consolation to Kausalya

अभिवाद्य नमस्यन्तं शूरं ससुहृदं सुतम्।मुदाऽस्रैः प्रोक्ष्यसि पुनर्मेघराजिरिवाचलम्।।।।

abhivādya namasyantaṃ śūraṃ sa-suhṛdaṃ sutam | mudā ’sraiḥ prokṣyasi punar megha-rājir ivācalam ||

As your brave son—accompanied by his friends—greets you and bows, you will again sprinkle him with tears of joy, like a band of clouds wetting a mountain.

While paying obeisance to you, you will drench your brave son, surrounded by friends, with tears of joy like a mass of clouds drenching the mountain.

S
Sumitrā
K
Kausalyā
R
Rāma

Dharma is linked with rightful emotional expression: joy grounded in virtuous reunion and respectful conduct is portrayed as pure and life-sustaining.

Sumitrā continues her reassurance by turning Kausalyā’s present tears of sorrow into an image of future tears of joy at Rāma’s respectful return.

Bravery joined with humility—Rāma is ‘śūra’ yet still bows and offers salutations.
