द्वात्रिंशस्सर्गः — Gifts to Suyajna and the Brahmins; Trijata’s Petition and Rama’s Charity
हारं च हेमसूत्रं च भार्यायै सौम्य हारय।रशनां चाधुना सीता दातुमिच्छति ते सखे।।।।
hāraṃ ca hema-sūtraṃ ca bhāryāyai saumya hāraya |
raśanāṃ cādhunā sītā dātum icchati te sakhe ||
Dear friend, take these for your wife—the necklace and the golden chain; and now Sītā also wishes to give you the girdle.
O handsome friend! now Sita intends to give away to your wife her necklace, her golden chain and girdle. Could you accept them?
Dharma is expressed through considerate gifting: valuables are offered with respect, and gifts are directed appropriately (here, to the guest’s wife).
Rāma, acting on Sītā’s prompting, asks Suyajña to accept ornaments intended for Suyajña’s wife.
Sītā and Rāma’s generosity and refinement in hospitality—giving with sensitivity to relationships and propriety.
