द्वात्रिंशस्सर्गः — Gifts to Suyajna and the Brahmins; Trijata’s Petition and Rama’s Charity
स शाटीं त्वरितः कट्यां सम्भ्रान्तः परिवेष्ट्य ताम्।।।।आविद्ध्य दण्डं चिक्षेप सर्वप्राणेन वेगितः।
sa śāṭīṁ tvaritaḥ kaṭyāṁ sambhrāntaḥ pariveṣṭya tām || āviddhya daṇḍaṁ cikṣepa sarva-prāṇena vegitaḥ |
Startled and in haste, he wrapped his upper cloth about his waist; then, taking aim, he hurled the staff with all his strength, driving it forth with his very life-breath.
Bewildered Trijata swiftly tightened up his upper garment around his waist, set the direction for his staff and hurled it with all his might.
Human effort (puruṣakāra) must accompany received grace; the needy person also acts decisively when offered a fair means.
Trijaṭa immediately follows Rama’s instruction, preparing himself and throwing the staff to determine the gift’s extent.
Trijaṭa’s urgency and trust in Rama’s word—acting without delay.
