(Lakshmana’s Vow to Follow Rama and the Retrieval of Divine Weapons)

Bring quickly the venerable Suyajña, son of Vasiṣṭha—foremost among brahmins. After paying homage to him and to all other distinguished brahmins, I shall set out for the forest.

Fetch Suyajna, son of Vasistha, best among the brahmins along with all other distinguished brahmins to whom I will pay my homage and leave for the forest. Thus ends the thirtyfirst sarga of Ayodhyakanda of the holy Ramayana, the first epic composed by sage Valmiki.

Dharma is humility before spiritual authority: even in crisis, Rāma prioritizes honouring brahmins and the guru-line, aligning departure with reverence and truthfulness.

Rāma instructs Lakṣmaṇa to summon Suyajña and other respected brahmins so that Rāma may pay homage and then depart for exile.

Rāma’s reverence, gratitude, and orderly adherence to tradition (maryādā) before undertaking hardship.
