कौशल्याया मङ्गलविधानम् — Kausalya’s Benedictions and Protective Rites for Rama
समित्कुश पवित्राणि वेद्यश्चायतनानि च।स्थण्डिलानि विचित्राणि शैला वृक्षाः क्षुपा ह्रदाः।।2.25.7।।पतङ्गाः पन्नगास्सिंहास्त्वां रक्षन्तु नरोत्तम।
samit-kuśa-pavitrāṇi vedyāś cāyatanāni ca | sthaṇḍilāni vicitrāṇi śailā vṛkṣāḥ kṣupā hradāḥ || 2.25.7 || pataṅgāḥ pannagāḥ siṃhās tvāṃ rakṣantu narottama |
O best of men, may the sacrificial fuel, the purifying kuśa-grass, the altars and shrines protect you; may the varied ritual grounds, the mountains, trees, plants, and lakes; and may the birds, serpents, and lions guard you.
O best of men! may sacrificial fuel, kusa grass and sacred rings made of kusha grass, sacrificial altars, temples, various levelled sacrificial grounds, mountains, trees, plants, lakes, birds, serpents and lions protect you!
Dharma harmonizes human life with sacred space and nature: the blessing imagines the forest and ritual world as allies to one who walks righteously.
Kausalyā expands her benediction, invoking ritual implements, holy places, and even wild creatures as protective forces as Rāma heads toward forest life.
Rāma’s worthiness (narottama): his righteousness is assumed to command goodwill from sacred institutions and the natural world.
