अयोध्याकाण्डे त्रयोदशः सर्गः | Kaikeyi Presses the Boons; Dasaratha’s Lament and Collapse

एवमुक्त्वा ततो राजा कैकेयीं संयताञ्जलिः।।।।प्रसादयामास पुनः कैकेयीं चेदमब्रवीत्।

evam uktvā tato rājā kaikayīṃ saṃyatāñjaliḥ |

prasādayāmāsa punaḥ kaikayīṃ cedam abravīt |

Having spoken thus, the king, with hands joined in restrained reverence, again sought to appease Kaikeyī and spoke these words to her.

Having said this, the king spoke again with folded hands to Kaikeyi in order to appease her:

D
Daśaratha
K
Kaikeyī

Even amid anger, one may attempt conciliation to prevent greater harm; the verse shows a ruler trying to manage conflict through restraint rather than escalation.

After condemning Kaikeyī, Daśaratha shifts to pleading, approaching her with folded hands to soften her stance.

Self-control (saṃyama): despite humiliation and grief, Daśaratha attempts a measured, peace-seeking response.
