द्वादशः सर्गः — Kaikeyi’s Boons and Dasaratha’s Moral Collapse (Ayodhya Kanda 12)

parityajeyuḥ pitaro hi putrān bhāryāḥ patīṃś cāpi kṛtānurāgāḥ | kṛtsnaṃ hi sarvaṃ kupitaṃ jagat syād dṛṣṭvaiva rāmaṃ vyasane nimagnam ||

Seeing Rāma plunged into calamity, the whole world would blaze with anger; fathers would forsake their sons, and wives—though devoted—would abandon even their husbands.

This entire world will be inflamed to see Rama plunged in adversity. Fathers will abandon their sons. Wives, attached to their husbands, will forsake them.

Rama’s moral authority: his suffering is portrayed as intolerable to society because he embodies righteousness.
