Shloka 2.117.26

अत्र्याश्रमगमनम् तथा अनसूयोपदेशः (Arrival at Atri’s Hermitage and Anasuya’s Counsel)

प्राप्नुवन्त्य यशश्चैव धर्मभ्रंशं च मैथिलि।अकार्यवशमापन्नाः स्त्रियो याः खलु तद्विधाः।।।।

prāpnuvanty ayaśaś caiva dharmabhraṃśaṃ ca maithili |

akāryavaśam āpannāḥ striyo yāḥ khalu tadvidhāḥ ||

O Maithilī, women of that kind—who fall under the sway of what ought not be done—incur disgrace and also a fall from dharma.

O Sita, those women under the control of unworthy acts are dislodged from the pathof righteousness and get infamy.

Actions contrary to duty (akārya) lead to both social and spiritual consequences: loss of reputation and deviation from dharma.

Anasūyā warns Sītā by describing the downfall that follows when one becomes controlled by improper impulses and actions.

Saṃyama (discipline) and adherence to propriety (aucitya) as safeguards of dharma.
